Whole Foods Market Signs Multimillion Dollar Deal with Broadwing

Leading Food Retailer Turns to Broadwing for Nationwide Connectivity Needs

AUSTIN, TEXAS – February 3, 2003 – The integrated communications leader Broadwing Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of Broadwing Inc. (NYSE: BRW), today announced a three-year, multimillion-dollar agreement with Whole Foods Market® (NASDAQ: WFMI), the world’s largest natural and organic foods supermarket.

Broadwing is providing Whole Foods Market with a national data network connecting its more than 160 locations across the nation. The network is comprised of Broadwing’s award-winning IP network. Whole Foods Market will be utilizing Broadwing’s services to transmit business-related information from all of its remote locations to its Austin, Texas headquarters.
