Ace Hardware Spearheads Global Data Synchronization Drive with Velosel5

Selects Velosel application to streamline product information management processes across its supplier network

Mountain View, California - September 15, 2003 - Ace Hardware Corp., the largest retailer-owned hardware, home center, lumber and building materials cooperative in the industry, has chosen Velosel(tm) Corporation`s collaborative product information management platform to synchronize inventory data across the organization and with supplier partners.

Ace Hardware is the first retailer in the hardline industry to implement an enterprise platform for achieving Global Data Synchronization. The company selected Velosel after evaluating several competing solutions.

Velosel`s collaborative product information management application, Velosel5, enables Ace Hardware to receive product data from its many supplier partners via the UCCnet registry and route it through the appropriate internal channels to ensure the information is accurate and up-to-date. This is achieved by creating workflows that direct product information from UCCnet to the appropriate person for verification and approval. The product data is then integrated with Ace Hardware`s existing back-end systems, such as inventory data warehouses, as well as front-end processes, such as point of sale. This data synchronization results in increased efficiency for both Ace Hardware and its suppliers, and faster time-to-market for new products.

Velosel5 can handle the complete set of 150 product attributes that are currently being established by the American Hardware Manufacturers Association through the VICS Hardlines eCollaborative Commerce Committee, ranging from `brand name` to `gross weight` and `return goods policy`. The software gives Ace Hardware the flexibility to incorporate emerging requirements in the hardline industry and to help drive standardization on UCCnet. The company is active in the efforts to make the 150 characteristics an industry standard and has selected a solution that will comply with these standards.

"Ace Hardware has taken a leadership role in pushing the hardline industry`s move towards Global Data Synchronization, first by spearheading standardization efforts," said Ricardo Berrios, Velosel vice president of global marketing. "The fact that the company is now implementing Velosel5 to roll out its strategy shows it is committed to helping the industry achieve full Global Data Synchronization."

"Our goal is to eliminate product information inefficiencies and inaccuracies through Global Data Synchronization, and Velosel`s solution will help us achieve this," said Greg Lenard, director of inventory control at Ace Hardware. "Now that we have the right infrastructure in place, we can focus on helping our suppliers get fully synchronized, quickly and cost-efficiently."
