Checkpoint Systems Unveils Industry`s First Complete Enterprise EPC/RFID Solution For the Retail Supply Chain
CHICAGO--Sept. 16, 2003--Checkpoint Systems, Inc., a leading provider of product identification and shrink management solutions, today demonstrated a complete cradle to grave electronic product code/radio frequency identification (EPC/RFID) solution for retailers and consumer packaged goods (CPG) suppliers at Frontline`s International Supply Chain Week Conference & Expo. The new solution will be demonstrated throughout the tradeshow, September 16-18, at booth #411.
As a market leader and worldwide provider of RFID solutions for access control, automated library and asset tracking applications, Checkpoint has been installing and servicing the RFID infrastructure needs of its customers for over 20 years. A member of the MIT Auto-ID Center, the company is now introducing a completely integrated EPC/RFID solution to support shipping, transportation, receiving, merchandising and in-store applications for deployment in the retail supply chain.
"Checkpoint`s vast experience with RFID technology has enabled us to now provide powerful solutions that will result in unprecedented levels of inventory efficiency that drive earnings per share value," said Dave Shoemaker, Group Vice President, Strategic Marketing of Checkpoint Systems, Inc. "The new EPC modules are designed to solve today`s specific business problems, yet flexible enough to accommodate future challenges within the enterprise as more applications for EPC/RFID technology become viable."
The EPC and RFID promise to be powerful tools for all retail supply chain participants. With the ability to identify individual items and communicate data without line-of-sight requirements, the solution increases inventory visibility and boosts efficiency at key checkpoints along the supply chain. Specific benefits of the new solution include improved labor utilization, labor reduction, reduced safety stock, reduced shrink and real-time visibility of assets.
CPG manufacturers will benefit from faster loading times and more accurate shipments, as well as better consumer sales data from retailers. Logistics providers will benefit from greater efficiencies in order selection, with increased accuracy and higher order fill rates. EPC/RFID can streamline both receiving and shipping, saving time and increasing accuracy.
Retailers will also benefit from the technology. At the back end of the store, retailers will enjoy many of the same advantages that EPC/RFID brings to manufacturers and distributors. In-store, it can enhance operations with real-time data for improved store planning and merchandising. It can improve point-of-sale operations with increased checkout accuracy and higher productivity. Other advantages include more accurate returns, improved reverse logistics and better post sale service.
"For the past 36 years, our clients have counted on us to understand their challenges and to deliver innovative solutions to support their profitability, said George Off, Chairman and CEO of Checkpoint Systems, Inc. "Today, clients throughout the retail supply chain can be confident that our EPC and 20 years of RFID expertise will help them enhance merchandise and information management to improve their businesses."
