Top 25 retailer will implement the Electronic Retail Enterprise to reduce shrinkage, improve inventory management, increase turns and deliver a greater GMROI

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 6, 2003 – GERS Retail Systems, a leading provider of business solutions for the retail industry, today announced that Mattress Firm, a Top 25 furniture retailer, will replace its current system with the GERS Electronic Retail Enterprise. The specialty bedding retailer will implement GERS’ Customer1 for managing customer transactions at the point of service, Enterprise1 for core business transactions, CreditConnect for private label credit processing, and RetailAnalyst for measuring business performance. By implementing a complete, integrated system from GERS, Mattress Firm will now be able to access customer and sales information in real time, improve inventory control, expedite credit processing, and leverage analytical tools for greater profitability.

"We began the search process for a new system more than a year ago, and as we went through our due diligence, we developed a scorecard of what we considered to be our critical decision criteria," said Jim Black, CFO of Mattress Firm. "GERS ranked the highest on the scorecard, and demonstrated that they could help us to reduce shrinkage, improve inventory management, increase turns and deliver a greater GMROI. That, along with their implementation methodology, offered us a greater chance of success and the highest overall value."

At the front end, Mattress Firm will implement Customer1, a real-time, anytime, anywhere point-of-service solution. As a Java-based solution, Customer1 uses the latest technology to share customer and sales transaction management in real-time across the organization for immediate access to critical information, and includes failsafe operations that ensure the continuity of sales activities in the event of unexpected disruptions. Further, Customer1 uses the familiar point-and-click format, which will improve ease of use at the point of sale to drive improved customer service.

"This is a huge advantage because it will also reduce training effort and support time," said Black. "Ease of use is very important in our business because we have a lot of stores with just a few individuals at each store. We need a product that they can learn quickly."

By implementing Enterprise1, Mattress Firm will integrate all merchandising, distribution, and financial information into a centralized, real-time environment for tighter inventory control, immediate information retrieval, and more streamlined processing of core business transactions. Mattress Firm will also leverage the extensive reporting capabilities built into the application, including the ability to handle state sales tax reporting, to save time and lower operational expenses.

To accelerate private label credit processing at the point of sale, Mattress Firm will implement CreditConnect. Integrated with Enterprise1, CreditConnect`s online credit application and authorization triggers rapid electronic processing of private label transactions, and reduces the time and labor required for processing credit applications, add-on authorizations, and end-of-day settlements. These gains in efficiency and productivity contribute to lower costs and higher profits.

Additionally, Mattress Firm will implement RetailAnalyst to measure business performance from the perspectives of sales, vendor, inventory and finance. RetailAnalyst Finance, a specialized analytical application comprised of General Ledger and Accounts Payable applications, will provide Mattress Firm with a strategic view of its profitability. By providing management with access to this critical data, Mattress Firm can gain an understanding of what drives their business, take advantage of sales opportunities, and minimize risk.

"With the signing of Mattress Firm, we have established that leading bedding retailers continue to select GERS as their information systems partner of choice," said Phil Kenney, Vice President of Marketing for GERS Retail Systems. "We are proud that they chose to implement our solution based on the fact that they would receive the most value and we look forward to being part of their growing success."
