Sidney, NE-based Cabela’s Inc. has re-launched its web site Cabelas.com. Online since 1998, Cabela’s hopes the new design will make shopping easier for customers, Tim Miller, director of Cabelas.com, tells Internet Retailer. As part of last week’s re-launch, Cabela's, an online, catalog and store retailer of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, is implementing the Verity K2 Catalog software.
Cabela’s says the new technology will help shoppers search through more than 96,000 products with greater ease and accuracy. Verity says K2 Catalog features include fuzzy search, which helps customers find merchandise they may misspell during a query, and intelligent merchandising, which suggests related products and promotes specific merchandise. Cabela’s also will use the electronic catalog software to direct customers to articles on a variety of subjects ranging from hunting to fishing to personal care in extreme conditions.
Cabelas.com hopes the new technology will not only improve the customer shopping experience but also boost conversion rates. Cabelas.com already converts 9% of visitors into buyers. “We think we can add a couple of points to that,” Miller says. Cabelas.com hosts 500,000 to 700,000 unique visitors monthly, Miller says.
Miller says the re-launch also featured a broader range of payment options. In addition to operating the web site, Cabela’s mails about 75 million catalogs a year and operates seven stores in the Midwest and Plains states.
