The Coca-Cola Co. buys out its online cash partner RocketCash

The Coca-Cola Co. has acquired RocketCash, which has hosted and managed an online cash program for Sprite.com since October 2000.

RocketCash, a leading online cash product aimed at allowing teens to shop online without a credit card which Coke acquired in August, is now a subsidiary of Coke. RocketCash also is expanding its Sprite.com program, which features rewards and access to more than 100 top online retailers, to allow Sprite.com’s 2 million members to access their accounts using such wireless products as PDAs, web-enabled cell phones and Palm devices.

Sprite.com rewards Sprite drinkers by giving away RocketCash under 20-ounce and 1-liter Sprite bottlecaps. RocketCash prizes range from 20 cents to $1. They can use RocketCash to shop at the Sprite.com portal. Participating retailers include Barnesandnoble.com, CDNow and Gap.com. Consumers can add their own money to the Sprite RocketCash account as well.
