Black is black: A new web site sells only black fashions

Observing that black sells out the fastest of any fashion color, a group of former Kohl’s Corp. executives has launched a web site supported by a store that will feature only black apparel and home fashions. ETR Group LLC just launched Zakblack.com and opened its first store in Mequon, WI, a suburb of Milwaukee.

"Our business opportunity is based on the fact that almost invariably, on any fixture of sweaters, pants or tops at a retail apparel store, the black ones sell out first," says Kerri Young, Zak Black’s manager of retail operations. Young formerly managed several Kohl`s stores in the Milwaukee area.

Zak Black plans to develop a private label brand name from only the best-selling items available from manufacturers or created by their in-house design team.

ETR Group also owns the Christmas Internet portal, Christmas.com. The company is based in Mequon and is owned by Jeff Rusinow, a former Kohl`s executive vice president who oversaw the chain`s store openings in Washington, D.C., and New York. Rusinow also started Milwaukee`s first angel network, Silicon Pastures, in 2000, investing in early stage companies. He is also chairman of Internet specialty retailer BuySeasons Inc., which includes Deal.com and online costumes retailer BuyCostumes.com.

Zak Black plans additional stores in Wisconsin and Chicago for 2005, with a goal of 250 stores across the country in five years, supported by the web site.
