Online retail spending slips 5% vs. same week a year ago


Online retail spending slipped 5% for the week ending Sept. 12 from the comparable week a year ago, reflecting the later occurrence of Labor Day this year vs. last, comScore Networks Inc. reports. Online retail spending came in at $993 million vs. $1.046 billion a year ago. The week was only one of a handful of weeks this year that spending has not topped $1 billion.

By contrast, total retail spending for the week ending Sept. 11 was up 13.4% from the corresponding week a year ago, reports ShoppperTrak’s National Retail Sales Estimate.

Online travel sales were up 33% for the week ending Sept. 12 from the corresponding week a year ago, reaching $978 million from $736 million, comScore reports.
