i2 and DCM Solutions Announce Partnership
Dallas, TX -- 24 February 2003 -- i2 Technologies, Inc. the leading provider of end-to-end supply chain management solutions, and DCM Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of NEC Corporation, today announced a partnership designed to allow each company to recommend and generate qualified sales leads for each company’s products in the retail industry. The two companies have also agreed to jointly enhance solutions in the future.
DCM Solutions provides a web-based Demand Chain Management (DCM) product, e-demand, and professional services for the retail industry. The DCM Solutions technology is based on Tanpin Kanri, a discipline more commonly known as Demand Chain Management, and from more than 20 years of work by NEC with Ito-Yokado, Ltd. and 7-Eleven (Japan). Two U.S. customers, Ukrop’s Super Markets of Richmond, Va., and Balls Food Stores of Kansas City, Kan., also use DCM Solutions’ e-demand technology.
The partnership offers i2 the ability to offer its customers a solution that complements the i2 Retail solutions, including merchandise planning, category pricing, promotions planning, markdown pricing, forecasting and replenishment. These i2 solutions are designed to enable retailers to manage categories, develop merchandise plans and roll out assortment plans at the store cluster level, as well as generate forecasts and replenishment orders at the store-SKU level. The combination of the powerful i2 solutions, with the ability to capture store-level input related to flex assortments, forecasting, event management, perpetual inventory management and replenishment ordering, has been developed to enable retailers to include the involvement of the stores in the definition of localized assortments, forecasts and replenishment orders.
Depending on the retailer`s strategy, business model and merchandise type, both the i2 and DCM Solutions technologies can be combined with a goal of further improving assortments, reducing out-of-stock merchandise, reducing inventories and lowering markdowns, thereby increasing sales, improving margins and driving the efficiency of the retailers` assets.
"This relationship allows DCM Solutions, the innovator of Demand Chain Management principals and concepts, to partner with the leading the Supply Chain Management solutions provider to offer the U.S. marketplace a comprehensive solution designed to optimize headquarter and store level inventories, reduce out-of-stocks and minimize write-offs of perishable products." said Taiki Matsuo, president and CEO of DCM Solutions, Inc. "Additionally, this combined offering, when fully integrated, can provide for the opportunity to close the gap between the demand chain and the supply chain."
"This partnership will allow i2 and DCM to combine their retail expertise and knowledge to provide services and solutions that will drive value to their retail customers` bottom line," said Sam Nakane, i2 chief operating officer. "This partnership signals a commitment by both i2 and DCM solutions to the retail market, specifically the grocery and convenience sectors."
