Pathmark Implements Industry-Leading Initiative Using UCCnet Services

Synchronization Services to Enhance Relationships with Suppliers and Improve Supply Chain Efficiencies

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ October 6, 2003 – UCCnet, an organization that provides item registry and data synchronization services, announced today that Pathmark Stores (Nasdaq: PTMK), an operator of 143 supermarkets in New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and metropolitan Philadelphia, has implemented a trading partner collaboration initiative designed to enhance relationships with suppliers and improve accuracy of its item file. As part of the initial phase of the initiative, Pathmark will begin synchronizing item and company data for its products by using UCCnet GLOBALregistry and SYNCengine services for data synchronization. Pathmark joins more than 1,300 other supply and demand side trading partners as members of the UCCnet community.

According to Bob Schoening, senior vice president and chief information officer at Pathmark, UCCnet services will allow the company to improve the accuracy of its item file by enabling associates to update item information in a timelier manner with its hundreds of North American and international suppliers. “Pathmark has made a major investment over the last few years in enhancing its I.T. infrastructure. Implementing UCCnet services is an integral part of Pathmark’s continued enhancement effort,” said Schoening. “We know that synchronizing our data will not only improve our relationships with suppliers but will also ensure that our item file contains accurate information.”

UCCnet services will enable suppliers and their retail partners to reduce costly administrative errors in invoice pricing, purchase orders, product delivery and scanning accuracy. In addition, companies will be able to increase the speed of getting new products to market and facilitate continuous exchange of changes to existing item information. Synchronized data in a standard format also provides a solid foundation for realizing the true cost savings value of more advanced e-commerce tools such as scan-based trading and Collaborative Planning Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR®).

About UCCnet
UCCnet enables the registration and publication of product information (such as weight and dimensions) by providing a global repository for standardized item, location and trading partner data. Suppliers provide item, location and trading partner information to the UCCnet GLOBALregistry service. UCCnet SYNCengine services then check the data for compliance to EAN•UCC standards and validate the data with demand side partners, ensuring that all trading partners are using identical, updated, EAN•UCC standards-compliant data. UCCnet is a not-for-profit subsidiary of the Uniform Code Council, Inc. Visit www.uccnet.org for more information.
