Cellfire launches free mobile coupon service

A downloadable application that delivers coupons wirelessly to consumers’ cell phones for in-store use has been launched by San Jose-based Cellfire Inc. Merchants participating in the new service include Hollywood Video, 1-800-Flowers.com, Bath & Body works and others, the company says.

The free mobile coupon service, which delivers region-specific coupons, is now available to cell phone users nationwide, following a regional launch in December. To use the service, consumers download the application wirelessly from the Internet at Cellfire.com or use other mobile content channels.

Because the application and the regional coupons then reside in the cell phone or other handheld device, it eliminates the need to connect to the Internet during the transaction. Coupons are updated about every two weeks and consumers get access to them by refreshing the application on their handheld devices.

Consumers who’ve downloaded the application and coupons click on their phones` Cellfire icons and scroll down to review available coupons. To redeem a coupon, they press “Use Now” and show the coupon that appears to the store cashier.
