Sales at OfficeDepot.com grow 60% in the third quarter

Internet-based sales worldwide for Office Depot Inc. grew 60% to $402 million during the third quarter vs. Q3 2000 and 69% to $1.1 billion for the first nine months of 2001 vs. the first nine months of 2000, Delray Beach, FL-based Office Depot reports.

Companywide sales at Office Depot decreased 1% to $2.8 billion in Q3 compared to the third quarter in 2000 and 2% to $8.4 billion compared to the same period last year.

Operating profit for the third quarter of 2001 increased 107% to $101.5 million compared to the third quarter in 2000. For the first nine months of 2001, operating profit declined 7% to $279 million as compared to the same period last year.
