Movies Unlimited’s yearly web sales jump 79%
Online sales for Philadelphia-based Movies Unlimited Inc. grew 79% in the fiscal year just ended, the company reports. Web-based sales now account for about 25% of the company’s annual revenue of $17 million.
Total revenue for the company that bills itself as the nation’s oldest video mail order retailer grew 23.64% for the year ending Sept. 30.
The company is projecting a record fourth quarter.
Movies Unlimited markets videos through an annual 816-page catalog, with updates throughout the year. Far from decreasing the circulation of its catalogs, Movies Unlimited’s web success will increase circulation, the company says. In addition to being a convenient ordering vehicle for catalog customers, the web site is primary customer acquisition tool, a spokesman says. Customers who order via the web who do not receive the Movies Unlimited catalog are placed on the mailing list. Movies Unlimited web site receives 18,000 visitors a day.
Privately held Movies Unlimited was established in 1978. It offers current popular movies as well as classics and hard-to-find titles. Movies Unlimited notes that despite the quick rise of DVD movies, DVD still accounts for only 11% of Movies Unlimited’s sales.
