Drugstore.com revenue grows 32% in the third quarter
Third quarter sales at Bellevue, WA-based Drugstore.com increased 32% over third quarter of 2000 to $35 million, the company reported today. Average order grew to $66, 35% larger than a year ago. Gross margin increased from 9.2% in the third quarter of 2000 to 17.1% or $6 million and operating expenses before stock-based compensation, amortization of intangible assets, and other non-cash expenses declined by 42% year over year. Drugstore also reported that marketing and sales expense declined by $9.4 million, or 55%.
The company noted that the quarter was also marked by the mailing of its first catalog and implementation of a customer call center.
Drugstore.com says it expects fourth quarter net sales to be in the range of $40 million to $41 million and to add 210,000 to 220,000 new customers.
