Record Q1 revenue for 1-800-Flowers.com
First quarter FY2002 revenue at Westbury, NY-based 1-800-Flowers.com reached $79.2 million, up 9.2% from $72.5 million in last year’s Q1. Online revenues for the quarter, which ended Sept. 30, increased 27.2% to $32.3 million, representing 40.8% of total net revenues compared with $25.4 million, or 35.1%, in the same period last year.
The company added 455,000 new customers during the quarter, with 221,000 new customers coming to the company through its web site. During the period, 1 million customers placed orders, 53.6% of whom were repeat customers, up from 48.2% in the first quarter last year. Approximately 130,000 customers placed multiple orders during the quarter. Non-floral items, which carry a higher margin than flowers, represented 38.2% of sales vs. 34.9% a year ago.
The company’s net loss totaled $8.9 million, compared with $22.5 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2001
The company expects revenue to grow 25-28% during the current quarter to $168 million to $172 million.
