Bluefly opens a gift section and gets ready to mail its first catalog
Getting ready for the holiday shopping season, Bluefly Inc., which operates Bluefly.com, off-price seller of designer clothing, is preparing to mail its first-ever catalog, Ken Seiff, CEO, tells Internet Retailer. It will go to several hundred thousand customers of Bluefly in mid November. Bluefly also is opening a gift department in anticipation of holiday shopping.
Seiff says the weak economy, the expected decline in holiday travel, the hassle of putting packages through airport security and an expected fear of people to congregate in populated areas all will add to Bluefly’s holiday shopping volume.
Furthermore, he notes that retail weakness has improved the quality and quantity of merchandise that Bluefly carries. “The weak retail environment has increased the glut of inventory and, as a result, off-price retailers like Bluefly are benefiting from better and more current products and bigger discounts,” Seiff says. “Many designer brands are offering lower prices on their products or have decided to sell to us for the first time. That is enabling us to provide the best offering of products at amongst our lowest prices ever.”
The new gift department will open this week and features discounts of up to 75% “on everything from cashmere sweaters to sushi sets,” Seiff says.
