BBQGuys.com replaces old grill for the summer
BBQGuys.com, operated by Shopperschoice.com, on June 28 launched anew with a fresh platform to enable enhanced product information, site search and other functionality.
The relaunched site, using an e-commerce platform built internally, includes: product pages that enable access to spec sheets, videos and accessories specific to the individual product; refined site search designed to present more relevant results; and direct access to Shopperschoice.com Rewards, a loyalty program that spans all of the umbrella company’s e-commerce sites.
“The entirely new platform was a priority because our old site didn’t give us the flexibility we needed to put all of the information a buyer may need in front of them for every one of our products,” says Michael Hackley, CEO of Shopperschoice.com LLC. “And we needed to enhance site search functionality because previously search results were sometimes irrelevant.”
To create and then launch the new platform, the information technology staff designed new site templates, built in functionality to serve multiple e-commerce sites from the same database, modified site search to be site-specific instead of platform-specific, and mapped several thousand old URLs to new URLs.
In only two weeks, BBQGuys.com has registered more shoppers completing purchases online as opposed to researching products online and then calling in their orders, Hackley says. “Hopefully this trend will continue with the site tweaking we’re still doing. In the end, I suspect BBQGuys.com will become twice as valuable to us as it was before the redesign.”
Pure-play BBQGuys.com hit $6.4 million in sales last year, an 18.5% jump over 2004’s $5.4 million. The business is No. 446 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites.
