New Vertical Web Performance Indices from Keynote Provide Valuable Competitive Intelligence
Compare, Contrast and Improve Site Performance Relative to Others in Your Industry
San Mateo, Calif., March 12, 2003 - Keynote Systems (Nasdaq: KEYN) today announced the immediate availability of eight new vertical market Web performance indices that provide industry-specific competitive intelligence, and allow site operators to compare, contrast and improve their performance relative to others in their industry. Web site operators can use Keynote`s new vertical market indices to optimize the performance of their Web site and benefit from a mix of competitive intelligence, market and trend reporting and realistic industry indices for Web site performance.
Site operators can also use the new indices to motivate service providers to improve performance, and as independent third-party verification useful in service level agreements (SLAs). The new indices include banking, computers, health care, home loans and mortgages, home specialty (home and office retail), hotel and travel, pharmaceuticals and retail. Keynote customers can elect to receive one vertical index (Summary View) free of charge as part of their current subscription.
Keynote`s industry-specific vertical indices provide customers with a new and ideal method for evaluating and improving site performance relative to direct competitors in their market space, rather than simply to a cross-section of general business Web sites. The performance indices are comprised of the most popular Web sites in each vertical allowing customers to compare themselves directly to competitors and can gain insight into achieving a competitive edge.
"Because Web site performance expectations vary from industry to industry, enterprises engaged in e-business must assure themselves that they are comparing their site`s performance to relevant and realistic metrics specific to their unique vertical," said Arnold Waldstein, vice president of Marketing and Business Development for Keynote. "As the pioneer in Internet performance management services, Keynote is constantly looking for ways to add value to and customize our services for customers. We chose to offer these eight vertical indices initially because they represent some of the most active and competitive vertical markets engaged in e-business today."
Keynote`s new indices allow customers to assess the performance of their Web applications and e-business systems against the market leaders in their field, better define internal performance goals, gauge Web site success and establish competitive service level objectives for end users providing independent third party validation of high availability and good performance.
Keynote also announced today its Index of the Month program. Each month, Keynote will provide a sampling of highlights from one featured index to provide insight into the various metrics that drive these segments. The highlighted index for March is travel sites as visitors flock to these sites to schedule their spring break and summer vacations. Information about Keynote`s Index of the Month program can be found at the following web page: http://www.keynote.com/solutions/performance_indices/index_of_month/index_mo
nthly.html.
"As the Internet Performance Authority®, Keynote recognizes the value of providing these vertical markets with a barometer by which they can measure themselves and essentially address the pain points unique to them," said Waldstein.
The addition of these new industry-specific indices underscores Keynote`s leadership position as the benchmarking leader with over 80% market share and is part of Keynote`s "Total Performance Management" strategy for indexing, testing and managing the end-to-end performance of e-business applications and systems.

About the Keynote Vertical Indices
Performance data for vertical indices is available in two views - an aggregated or summary view of performance across all sites in the index, or a detailed view that includes performance detail for each Web site in the index. Vertical indices are available to Keynote service subscribers only. Unlike Keynote`s popular public indices, such as the Keynote Business 40 index, neither detailed nor aggregate vertical index data is published on the Keynote Web site. All measurements are taken hourly using Keynote Web Site Perspective® - Business Edition from over 50 locations in 25 major cities across the US. The vertical index data is available in the customer`s MyKeynote interface and can be used as a comparison in the daily performance report provided to subscribers of Keynote`s Web site monitoring and measuring services.
Availability and Pricing
Keynote vertical indices are available immediately with a choice of Summary or Detailed view. Keynote customers may select one vertical index (Summary View) to be added to their Keynote service subscription at no additional charge. Additional vertical indices are available to Keynote customers starting at $695 per month.
