Q3 web sales pep up NBTY


E-commerce sales for NBTY Inc. rose by 11.1% in the third quarter while total sales grew by 5.9%.

For the quarter e-commerce revenue totaled $17.9 million, up from $16.1 million in Q3 2006. At the same time total Q3 net sales rose to $503 million from $475 million in the prior year. “This increase reflects our ongoing efforts to garner greater online consumer sales,” the company says. “Puritan`s Pride views the Internet as the driver of future growth.”

The web represented 38% of NBTY’s direct response/Puritan’s Pride division in Q3, up slightly from 33% in Q3 2006. But overall revenue for the direct response unit decreased 4.1% to $47 million from $49 million in Q3 2006, the company says.

NBTY, No. 148 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, is a marketer and distributor of a broad line of nutritional supplements in the U.S. and overseas. The company’s brands include Nature’s Bounty, Vitamin World, Puritan’s Pride, Holland & Barrett, Rexall, Sundown, MET-Rx, WORLDWIDE Sport Nutrition, American Health, GNC (UK), DeTuinen, LeNaturiste, SISU and Solgar.
