Target, Amazon Services extend multi-year e-commerce agreement again

Target Corp. has extended by two years under which Target.com will run on the Amazon Enterprise Solutions platform, the companies announced. The agreement, to run until August 2010, extends by another two years the relationship initially forged in 2001.

Under the updated agreement, Amazon Enterprise Solutions will continue to provide comprehensive e-commerce technology services plus portions of Target.com’s order fulfillment and guest services operations, in exchange for fixed and variable fees.

“We are pleased that Target will be able to remain focused on our core strengths of merchandising and design, while continuing to benefit from Amazon’s innovation and expertise,” says Dale Nitschke, president of Target.com. Amazon is No. 1 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites.

Besides Target, Amazon Services LLC Amazon Enterprise Solutions currently powers a number of online retailers, including the web sites of The Bombay Company and Borders; and new as of this year, the e-commerce sites of Timex and fashion retailer BeBe. Amazon Service also experienced a major defection from its service platform in July when Toys “R” Us Corp., ending an earlier agreement with Amazon Services in a split that involved a court battle, announced new e-commerce outsource providers GSI Commerce Inc. and Exel.
