Google continues to gain search market share, study says
Google commanded 44.7% of U.S. online searches in June, up 21% from its June 2005 share of 36.9%, while Yahoo, MSN and Ask Network showed declines, comScore Networks reported.
MSN showed the sharpest decline in market share, dropping 18% to 12.8% from 15.7%, and ranked third behind Yahoo.
Yahoo’s share dropped 6% to 28.5% from 30.4%, while Ask Network’s share fell 15% to 5.1% from 6%.
U.S. Internet users conducted 6.4 billion searches in June, a 29% increase over the 5 billion searches conducted in June 2005. Google led in search query volume at 2.9 billion searches, followed by Yahoo with 1.8 billion and MSN, 818 million.
