Home Depot adds an online gift center for the holidays

The Home Depot today opened an online gift center at its web site to help customers find holiday gifts. The gift center features 200 top-selling products ranked by price from $5 to $500 and sorted by gift categories. Categories include "Gifts for everyone" such as blenders and toasters, "Power tools" such as cordless drills and compressors, "Tools and accessories" such hammers and toolboxes, and "Ultimate gifts" such as miter saws and gas grills. The company says the gift center was designed to complement the regular online store, including offering gift cards.

Filling and delivering orders will take three to five days. The Home Depot will e-mail the customer if a product will not be able to be received in time for the holidays.

The gift center is the second announcement the home improvement retailer has made recently in an effort to drive more sales on the web. Last week, the Home Depot announced The Home Depot Outlet, a pilot with eBay to sell selected products. Home Depot started selling products online last spring.
