Keynote Systems Announces Application Perspective; New End-to-End Monitoring and Root Cause Diagnostics Service for E-Business Applications
New Service Provides Lowest Total Cost of Ownership Solution
NEW YORK CITY, Global Internet Performance Conference, October 27, 2003 –Keynote Systems (Nasdaq “KEYN”), the worldwide leader in Web performance measurement and management services, today announced Keynote Application Perspective®, the industry’s most comprehensive end-to-end monitoring and root cause diagnostics solution for e-business applications at the lowest total cost of ownership. Application Perspective is part of Keynote’s continuing commitment to providing customers with Total Performance Management (TPM) for their e-business applications. The overarching goal of TPM is to enable the enterprise to efficiently link IT resources to e-business goals.
The complexity of today’s e-business applications makes it increasingly difficult to accurately and efficiently monitor, triage, isolate and repair performance-related problems from the end user perspective. Therefore, identifying the source of performance problems and facilitating communication between disparate IT groups, including development, network operations and application support personnel, has become difficult when performance-related problems occur.
Keynote Application Perspective has been specifically designed to address all these problems, and more, by providing enterprise customers with the following:
• A transactional high-throughput monitoring agent that can be placed wherever the customer desires, inside or outside the firewall.
• An integrated real time data console and event adapter that links to the customer’s existing enterprise management systems.
• On-demand, real time configuration and set-up through a self-service portal that Keynote customers use to set up and manage scripts.
• Integrated recorder enabling scripting for multiple Keynote services.
• Optional Keynote Performance Scoreboard (see separate press release).
• Optional “tag and trace” capability (initially through HP OpenView Transaction Analyzer instrumentation, see separate press release issued today), that allows customers to drive synthetic Web transactions on demand and follow them all the way through n-tier architectures (Web servers, application servers and databases) in order to quickly diagnose and repair e-business performance problems.
Keynote Application Perspective enables fast root cause analysis and problem resolution, facilitating collaboration across multiple functional groups in order to shorten the mean time to repair. Customers can proactively track end-to-end visibility and perform drill-down diagnostics into J2EE and Microsoft-based applications, isolate poorly performing business processes on demand and in real time, and quickly pinpoint Web server, application server and database problems.
“We have used Keynote`s Transaction Perspective measurements for years to obtain data for Incident Management which helps us closely control the customer experience. Now Keynote`s Application Perspective provides data for the more important task of Problem Management which focuses on identifying the underlying errors," said James Wells, vice president, technical services, Pershing LLC, a Bank of New York Securities Brokerage Co. "Relating the data from these two processes is an important IT infrastructure library (ITIL) goal. Application Perspective will directly help us with Problem Management by helping identify the actual problem within our infrastructure. Used in combination with Transaction Perspective, these Keynote services will help us relate our Incident Management and Problem Management processes to help us achieve important ITIL compliant objectives.”
“Keynote is the worldwide leader in delivering performance measurement and management services for e-businesses worldwide,” said Arnold Waldstein, vice president of marketing and business development for Keynote. “Now with Application Perspective, Keynote combines end-user measurements with an integrated set of behind the firewall diagnostic measurements that is the best available solution for efficient, targeted diagnosis of Web problems. Application Perspective brings together network operations, application support and development staff with an easy to use tool that encourages collaborative work to fix problems quickly.”
As an option, Application Perspective customers can purchase Keynote Performance Scoreboard, a customizable portal for the visual management of service level objectives for multi-property, multi-location e-businesses.
How Keynote Application Perspective Works
Application Perspective provides the intelligence to make quick, unequivocal diagnoses, helping customers understand exactly where the slowdown or performance related problem is occurring.
Using Application Perspective customers can identify the root cause of poor end-user performance by identifying and tracing, like a “red dye,” Keynote-initiated synthetic transactions through their underlying servers, applications and infrastructure to monitor the impact of each component on performance.
Furthermore, when used with HP OpenView Transaction Analyzer, the diagnostic test would additionally deliver important application layer instrumentation data in real time.
Through its real-time monitoring and alerting console, Application Perspective provides complete insight into the Web-tier, application tier, database-tier and how each component impacts the end-user experience for faster root cause analysis and problem resolution. Customers can monitor internal and external measurements, baseline performance data for comparative analysis and historical trending and access detailed drilldown component data including network as well as content level details and alert information, through seamless integration with MyKeynote.
Availability and Pricing
Keynote Application Perspective will be available in December 2003 with pricing starting at USD $4,000 per month. For customers using the Application Perspective service, the HP OpenView Transaction Analyzer integration will be offered as the “Instrumentation Option” on a subscription basis for USD $1,000 per month. Customers will work directly with HP to implement the “Instrumentation Option” as part of their overall HP OpenView Transaction Analyzer environment.
Select customers will have early access to the solution. The integrated solution is expected to be generally available in Q1 2004.
