Sales continue to climb at PetMed Express

PetMed Express Inc. registered $50.7 million in sales during the quarter ended June 30, 2006, a 16% increase over $43.6 million during the quarter ended June 30, 2005. Web sales represented 59%, or $29.9 million, of total sales during the quarter. Web sales accounted for 54%, or $23.5 million, of sales during the same period last year.

“Retail reorder sales increased by 32% from $25.8 million to $33.9 million,” says Menderes Akdag, CEO and president. “We will continue to focus on reorder sales by initiating more relevant personalized communication and health education content to assist customers in choosing the right products for their pets.”

Earlier this year the company, No. 110 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, decided to focus more on retail customers and limit wholesale sales, Akdag adds.

The 10-year-old pet pharmacy delivers prescription and non-prescription pet medications and other health products for dogs, cats and horses through its 1-800-PetMeds telephone channel and on the Internet. In 2005 it hit total web sales of $72.5 million, a 29.8% jump over $55.8 million in 2004.
