Acer takes its computer sales to eBay
Acer Corp., one of the 10 largest manufacturers of PCs, has started selling its products on eBay. Acer becomes part of a movement among manufacturers and retailers to sell products and excess inventory in an auction format. Acer, which will sell its TravelMate notebook and Veriton desktop products on eBay, is working with ChannelAdvisor Corp. to manage the auctions.
Computer sales at eBay have grown 57% on the past year. “We are excited about selling our products to eBay’s 38 million buyers,” says Patrick Lin, president of Acer America. “ChannelAdvisor’s technology platform allows us to build a scalable solution that meets our needs at every stage of our marketplace strategy.”
ChannelAdvisor works with more than 30 brand-name retailers, manufacturers and direct marketers who are selling on consumer marketplaces, including IBM Corp., Ingram Micro, West Marine, Omaha Steaks, eBay, Yahoo! and Amazon Auctions.
A subsidiary of the Acer Group, Acer America Corp. designs, builds and markets desktop PCs, notebook computers, servers and networking solutions for business, government, education and home users. The Acer Group employs nearly 37,000 people in 232 enterprises in 41 countries worldwide.
