Whopper of an online shopper: eBay, Burger King cook up online loyalty deal
EBay is not resting in its efforts to become a retailing powerhouse. The latest: a deal with Burger King Corp. to award eBay points to Burger King customers who can then spend them at eBay.com to bid on Burger King rewards merchandise.
The program is scheduled to launch early next year.
Under the loyalty program, Burger King customers who purchase certain food or drink items will earn points which can be deposited and tracked on a co-branded Burger King-eBay site. Burger King says it plans to make available 1 million rewards during 2002. Burger King says AOL Time Warner may provide a wide range of these rewards, such as CDs, concert tickets and other entertainment products.
"The development of this loyalty program demonstrates the flexibility and power of the eBay platform,” said Brian Swette, chief operating officer, eBay.
