Internet sales at Build-A-Bear Workshop rose 32.3% year-over-year to $1.7 million in the second quarter ended July 1, the retailer reports. Online sales represented about 1.8% of total sales.
By comparison, total Q2 sales rose 27% year-over-year to $93 million, up $73.3 million. Q2 comparable sales in North America dropped 4.4%.
Second-quarter net income totaled $3 million, down 14% from $3.5 million in the year-earlier period. Build-A-Bear said the decline reflected the acquisition of The Bear Factory Limited, a United Kingdom-based stuffed animal retailer and of Amsbra Ltd., its U.K. franchisee.
Build-A-Bear, No. 400 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, reaffirmed its previous guidance for fiscal 2006 of earnings per share of between $1.44 and $1.53.
