Sales at ToysRUs.com outpace store sales
Sales at ToysRUs.com, the web site of Toys R Us Inc. which is operated by Amazon.com, increased 33% to $39 million in the third quarter from $23 million for the third quarter of last year, the company reported today.
Operating losses at Toysrus.com were $17 million in the third quarter, in line with expectations, and down from $30 million in last year`s third quarter, excluding the impact of on-recurring charges resulting from the alliance initiated last year with Amazon.com.
In the first nine months of the year, ToysRUs.com sales increased to $103 million from $40 million last year.
Web sales at Toys R Us still account for only a tiny fraction—less than 2%--of companywide sales at Toys R Us, which declined 2% to $2.18 billion for the quarter from $2.22 billion. For the first nine months, sales dropped 4% to $6.26 billion from $6.5 billion. Comparable store sales at Toys R Us toy stores fell 9% in the third quarter from year earlier. Toys R Us also operates Babies R Us and Kids R Us.
