CoolSavings’ Coupon Technology Solution is now available for licensing to retailers and advertisers that want to allow customers to print coupons from web sites, banner ads and e-mails. Clients can create their own private label coupons that drive traffic to web sites and stores. "Retailers are recognizing there’s a lot of cross-channel shopping going on and they need strategies to drive sales to both venues, online and offline," says Matt Moog, president and CEO of CoolSavings.
The licensing provides a turnkey ASP service in which CoolSavings hosts the coupon technology and retailers interface with the hosting server to create and deliver the coupons. The company also provides tracking and reporting services to show retailers who used the coupons.
Moog says the use of printable coupons goes back to CoolSavings’ roots. "We launched as a company that printed home coupons for our members. But then it moved to just the web where consumers clicked through in order to get their discount. As the retail world becomes more multi-channel, retailers are realizing they can use coupons printed from the web to drive sales in the brick and mortar stores," he says.
Moog says multi-channel merchants, video chains, consumer goods manufacturers and grocery stores are interested in the technology. CoolSavings has four contracts with undisclosed retailers and has about 35 more in the works.
CoolSavings has been using its coupon technology with its own database of 16 million members for nearly four years. The company quotes research from the Valentine Radford iCustomer Observer, an online research study, which has reported that 55% of online consumers prefer getting coupons from the Internet rather than newspapers or traditional mail.
