SCANSOURCE ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT WITH HP TO SERVE RETAIL SOLUTION PROVIDERS
GREENVILLE, SC -- Nov. 7, 2003 – ScanSource, Inc., {Nasdaq: SCSC}, the leading international distributor of specialty technology products, today announced an agreement with Hewlett-Packard (HP) to distribute the HP rp5000 POS, the company’s new Web-enabled, point-of-sale (POS) platform.
The HP rp5000 POS is an open-standards based device designed to withstand the rigors of the retail environment with enhanced power and cooling capabilities and extensive connectivity for POS peripherals via powered and non-powered serial and USB ports. The rp5000 combines the functionality of popular proprietary systems with the lower price and flexibility of PC-based POS systems. ScanSource’s reseller partners will have access to HP’s rp5000 POS device, which is designed to work with peripherals from other manufacturers that are also available from ScanSource.
The rp5000 comes with a three-year warranty, with optional uplift to five years, and a five-year locked-in chipset. These features ensure the end-user long-lasting performance and reliability, while minimizing maintenance and support costs.
The durability of the HP-POS allows it to accommodate tough operating conditions often found in retail environments. Thermal monitoring and temperature alerts are standard on this product. The rp5000 also has a small footprint, which provides more workspace for the retailer.
