Big surge in online spending says holiday shopping has begun
ComScore Networks Inc., which tracks consumer online behavior, reports that online retail spending grew 6% last week over the week before and 37% over the average weekly spending before Sept. 11.
Online travel spending, meanwhile, stayed in the doldrums, 25% below the baseline average and 23% below the previous week.
“This is a clear sign that holiday shopping is in full swing,” comScore said
Here’s what comScore reports for all online spending (including travel and event tickets), travel only and other spending not including travel, in millions. The percentage changes in all cases are from pre-attack levels.
