Sears rolls out its buy-on-web-pick-up-at-store offering
Sears, Roebuck and Co. is rolling out its pick-up-at-the-store service for web customers, Sears reported today. It had tested the service over the summer (InternetRetailer.com, July 6, 2001, Sears tests store pick-up service) with a variety of products at stores around the country.
Sears says most products will be available for pick up the same day as ordering. While browsing and at checkout, shoppers can see if items are in stock or the number of days expected before it becomes available. Shoppers must make their online order for store pick up within two hours of a store’s closing.
Sears says adding the store pick up option saves money on shipping, avoids delivery issues such as having to be home when the delivery is made and simply allows customers to get the item quicker than having it delivered. The store pick up option is available for the majority of products sold on Sears.com. The option is not available for jewelry or watches or items from Sears specialty catalogs.
