Discovery wraps up experiential gift-giving deal with Excitations

Discovery Commerce has signed a multi-year deal with Excitations to sell gifts of the kinds of adventures featured in Discovery Channel TV shows, including hang gliding, shark diving and race car driving. Excitations specializes in selling such experiential gifts via the web and toll-free phone numbers.

Excitations will be the exclusive provider of the adventure packages, which are promoted at www.discoverystore.com/experiences. The adventures start at $50.

"Extending the viewer experience in such a unique way reflects our commitment to bring to consumers exhilarating adventures that share knowledge, satisfy curiosity and inspire them to discover," says Patrick Gates, president and general manager of Discovery Commerce. "We look forward to working with Excitations to offer an increasing array of `once in a lifetime` Discovery Channel Experiences to match each viewer`s unique passions and interests."

"We are delighted to partner with an organization dedicated to inspiring viewers to explore, understand and appreciate all the planet has to offer," says Ian Landy, co-founder and CEO at Excitations "By offering memorable experiences from shark diving and bi plane adventures to whitewater rafting and sleepovers at the aquarium, Discovery Channel viewers can not only watch the action, but be a part of it as well."

Founded in 2005, Sterling, VA-based Excitations has established relations with providers of activities such as whitewater rafting and skydiving in about a dozen of the largest U.S. markets, a spokesman says. He says the company plans to expand into more markets in 2008 and to establish more ties with companies like Discovery that reach large numbers of consumers. The privately held company does not disclose its revenue.

Discovery Commerce is the consumer products, licensing and home video division of Discovery Communications, No. 186 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
