Manufacturer Pentax Technologies enters retail market with online store
Portable printer and Internet camera manufacturer Pentax Technologies has entered the retail business with the launch of its own online store. The Pocket Jet Portable printers for mobile use and VersaCam Internet cameras for remote monitoring haven’t been available at retail, either in stores or through other online sources. Until now, the company, a division of the Asahi Optical Co. that is the parent company of the 80-year old Pentax camera brand, has distributed the products through third party systems integrators as part of a bundled package.
“The launch of our new online store is an important development for Pentax Technologies," says Robert Bender, president. “We believe now is the ideal time to position our company for growth and competitive advantage. The online store is the fastest, easiest way for customers to order products, accessories and supplies.”
The online store is accessible as a link through the company’s existing corporate site. The products can be purchased online at standard retail prices. Within a week of its initial soft launch, which included no offline promotion, sales of the products at the new online store had topped $5,000, says a company spokeswoman.
