UPS expects deliveries to peak tomorrow

United Parcel Service is projecting that Tuesday will be its busiest day of the year, delivering 18 million packages—35% more than an average day’s 13.1 million packages. UPS says it will deliver 325 million packages between Thanksgiving and Christmas. In spite of the reported increases in online shopping this holiday season, the level is about the same as last year, UPS says. UPS’s overall volume has been down throughout the year.

UPS says its air express volume to peak two days later on Thursday when it expects to handle 4 million air express packages, double its normal air express volume.

To handle the load, UPS says it will increase its daily cargo flights between Dec. 17 and 24 by 45% to 1,300. UPS also says its expects 10 million UPS customers to track their orders online each day this week, double its normal volume.
