OneTouch™ Systems Strengthens Commitment to Retail Trade with New Business Unit
Industry Veteran Angelina Mellen as VP of Retail Solutions
San Jose and San Diego, California (December 16, 2003) -- OneTouch Systems™, the industry leader in distance learning (IDL) solutions for large organizations, today announced the creation of its Retail Solutions Division. OneTouch has appointed industry veteran Angelina Mellen as Vice President of Retail Solutions to lead an initiative to expand OneTouch’s already successful activities within the retail sector. Mellen, who has 20 years of experience in the retail industry, previously held similar positions at NSB Group (formerly STS Systems) and Data General Corporation.
The retail industry employs more than 20 million employees, about one in five American workers, and recorded sales of nearly $4 trillion last year. OneTouch currently serves a number of leading national retail organizations, including BMW, J.C. Penny, Safeway Stores, Albertsons, General Motors, Ford Motor Company and Walgreens. The new OneTouch business unit will focus on increasing the deployments of both live and on-demand interactive training solutions among all types of retailers including department stores, grocery, specialty, discount, catalog operations and other sellers of both hard and soft consumer goods.
“Every retailer is concerned with improving margins, increasing sales and lowering operating costs at the store level,” Mellen explained. “To achieve these objectives, OneTouch live and on-demand training solutions can be leveraged across the retail enterprise from the distribution center through merchandising, point of sale, loss prevention and auditing to produce dramatic ROI results.”
In actual field tests at a major national chain, store locations that implemented OneTouch training solutions posted revenue improvements as much as seven percent higher than a control group of stores that did not use OneTouch. Another chain was able to become more profitable than all of its competitors by leveraging OneTouch within its existing network infrastructure to increase its number of marketing initiatives from four per year to more than thirteen per year.
“Angelina Mellen and her team have the experience and credentials to provide major retailers with professional guidance on improving their profitability and ROI through the use of advanced technology-based training systems” said Dennis Bertken, chairman and CEO of OneTouch. “Another important function for this new division will be to advance our strategic partnerships with other retail enterprise solutions providers including Hughes Network Systems and others.”
