The number of consumers who have downloaded a game to a mobile device increased 15% over the last two quarters to 13.5 million mobile subscribers, according to mobile communications industry research firm Telephia. Average revenue in each month of Q2 was $46.9 million, up 63% over two quarters ago, Telephia reports.

The most popular games were Tetris by EA Mobile, with a 5.1% market share, and Pac-Man by Namco, with a 3% share. Bejeweled, also by EA Mobile, was third with a 2.8% share. Fourth was Ms. Pac-Man at 2.3%; fifth was World Poker Tour—Texas Hold ‘Em by Hands-On Mobile, with 2.2%.

EA Mobile captured more than 29% of total publisher revenues for Q2 2006; Namco, 8.4%; Hands-On Mobile, 8.2%; Glu Mobile, 7.4%; and Gameloft, 7.1%, Telephia reports.

“In less than a year, average monthly mobile game revenues have increased by nearly two-thirds, from $28.7 million to $46.9 million during the most recent quarter,” says Kanishka Agarwal, Vice President of New Products, Telephia. “Backed by an increasingly growing audience, both big gaming brands and new upstarts have taken a slice of that revenue pie.”
