Now appearing at Lowes.com: DIY animated shorts
Wilkesboro, NC-based Lowe’s Cos. Inc. is deploying animated how-to tutorials at Lowes.com. It began offering the tutorials with little fanfare in October and today has 100 animated features in its library of 500 how-to articles and buying guides. The tutorials are created by Easy2 Technologies of Cleveland.
Customers who use the tutorials can watch and listen to an animated demonstration, listen to the narrative or read about the project. Lowe’s says it plans to add tutorials throughout the year. Lowe’s is using Easy2’s InstructoVISION product.
The benefit to animated tutorials is that seeing the project rather than simply reading about it gives consumers more confidence that they can complete the project, a spokeswoman tells internetretailer.com. Lowes.com chose the most popular projects to animate, rather than the most difficult, the spokeswoman says.
"Almost every home improvement project starts with a list of questions,"
said John Bukovnik, president of Easy2 Technologies. "Our research shows
these questions can be answered most effectively with animated and narrated
demonstration, in addition to a written description."
Lowe’s operates 740 stores in 42 states and has annual sales of $19 billion.
