Aristotle Balogh, former chief technology officer at Internet infrastructure services provider VeriSign Inc., will lead global engineering and technology operations at Yahoo Inc. He will report to Yahoo co-founder and CEO Jerry Yang.
Balogh will be responsible for company-wide product development, including optimizing resources, speeding innovation, and ensuring the quality of Yahoo's products and services, Yahoo says. He will focus on establishing a common technology architecture to support development and support the overall effectiveness of Yahoo's engineering efforts.
Yahoo's scope of products and services include search marketing, e-marketplace hosting and e-commerce storefront platforms.
At VeriSign, Balogh served as executive vice president and chief technology officer and headed global product design. During his nearly ten years at VeriSign, Balogh held numerous technology leadership positions that focused on aligning technical execution with business priorities, Yahoo says.
“World-class technology development is a critical part of Yahoo's strategy,” Yang says. “Bringing a strong technology leader on board to drive engineering and operational excellence across our technology group has been a significant priority for the company. With a proven track record for successfully leading large scale engineering initiatives and driving rapid cycles of technology innovation, Ari's leadership skills are well suited to leading Yahoo's development efforts as we continue in our mission to deliver the best, most indispensable experiences on the Internet."
On Friday, Yahoo's board of directors said it would consider an unsolicited offer from Microsoft Corp. to acquire it in a deal valued at about $44.6 billion. Balogh was not available for comment on the offer.
Balogh fills the vacancy created in June when the former chief technology officer, Farzad Nazem, left Yahoo after 11 years with the company.
