October 11, 2001 - Milwaukee, Wisconsin -IonTunes, the digital music distribution service owned by Topical Networks, has signed a deal with Sony Music Entertainment (SME) to become a retail affiliate partner for SME`s commercial digital downloads. There are over 1,300 songs available through SME`s commercial digital download system, in two audio formats.
"The ability to purchase so much music from Sony Music Entertainment`s diverse roster of artists is a great win for our users," said Matt Miszewski, CEO of Topical Networks. "Sony Music Entertainment is a powerhouse in the industry and no online service like ours would be complete in the absence of a deal with them."
"We are pleased to have ionTunes as the latest affiliate partner for Sony Music Entertainment`s commercial digital downloads," said Al Smith, Senior Vice President, Sony Music Entertainment. "Through ionTunes, Topical Networks will create an environment that respects the rights of the artist and the music company while building an exciting community for music fans."
In addition to the affiliate relationship with SME, Topical Networks has already signed deals with BMG Entertainment, Liquid Audio and hundreds of independent artists and smaller labels. The ionTunes system launched on August 31.
