Jos. A. Bank’s web sales grow while total sales drop
The web continues to grow as a percentage of Jos. A. Bank Clothiers Inc. total sales. Bank’s web sales increased 55.7% in December, the company reported today, while total sales for the company fell 5%. Bank does not break out sales numbers for its web site. Bank’s December sales totaled $32.2 million, down from $33.9 million in December 2000.
In addition, in December catalog sales decreased 26.2% on a planned 21.1% reduction of catalogs mailed.
Bank reported that after adjusting for the fiscal December calendar shift which resulted in one less pre-Christmas week this year, total sales increased 3.3%. Comparable store sales decreased 6.7% compared to the same five-week period last year.
