Newport News gets a new president

Newport News Inc., which operates a web site and catalog of moderately priced women`s apparel and home décor, has promoted Geralynn Madonna to president and COO. She will report to George Ittner, chairman and CEO. Madonna will assume responsibility for marketing in addition to merchandising and advertising.

Madonna most recently held the position of executive vice president, merchandising and advertising. She joined Newport News in 1981, which then operated as Avon Fashions.

Newport News is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Spiegel Group.
