August Sharper Image Internet sales down 10% from last year
August Internet sales at Sharper Image Corp. were down 10% from August last year, falling to $5 million from $5.6 million, the company reports. Total sales in August decreased 13% to $32.5 million from $37.5 million a year earlier.
Comparable stores sales fell 22%, while total store sales dropped 20% to $19 million from $23.8 million. Total catalog sales/direct marketing sales, including wholesale, were up 5% to $8.5 million compared to $8.1 million from $8.9 million in August 2005.
For the seven months ended August 31, Internet sales at Sharper Image, No. 87 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, totaled $37.3 million, down 21% from $47.1 million a year ago, while total sales were $241.8 million, a 23% decrease from $312.3 million a year earlier. Total stores sales for the seven-month period were $140.4 million, a 26% decrease from $189 million a year earlier, while comparable store sales dropped 28%. Total catalog sales/direct marketing sales, including wholesale, for the six months were $64.1 million, down 15% from $75.3 million for the same period last year.
