eCashPad starts an ad campaign and gets a push from a movie site


The eCashPad from eConnect, a secure device that consumers install on their PCs and use to pay for web purchases, is getting its first major marketing push. Earlier this month, eConnect, the device’s manufacturer, began airing commercials on CBS TV stations in Los Angeles and New York. It will expand that to other markets this year. It also is preparing an infomercial.

In addition, Kanakaris Wireless, which operates movie distribution sites, has started promoting the eCashPad to its base of 250,000 subscribers for whom it has e-mail addresses. The eCashPad accepts credit cards and debit cards. The device prevents the card data from being stored at a merchant’s web site.

Kanakaris customers will receive a 30-day free trial. If they keep the device, they will pay $59.95 plus $5.95 for shipping.

Other merchants using the eCashPad include RebelOffice.com and EZStreetWireless.com. EConnect says it is getting about 10,000 orders a month for the device and expects that to increase to 20,000 a month for the rest of the year,
