Crutchfield helps customers assemble audio/video setups online

Crutchfield Corp. has introduced the Home System Planning Center, a suite of online tools that customers can use to integrate the audio and video components they already own with new ones they want to buy.

Crutchfield’s new center also includes interactive product recommenders that help users narrow down choices for items such as TVs, receivers, DVD players, and home speaker systems by answering a few simple questions. Users also can identify their existing components from a database of over 6,000 new and older products, the company says.

Using the center, shoppers can compile personalized lists of components and save the possible combinations for later reference. Once they return and log into their Crutchfield accounts, users can make notes on their systems, revise their component lists, add items to their online cart for purchase, or contact a Crutchfield Sales Advisor for advice.

Crutchfield, No. 81 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, designed the center based on customer feedback and input from its sales and technical advisors.

“For decades, Crutchfield has been helping people build their card and home audio/video systems,” says Dave Weisman, senior director of business development. “All that experience has taught us how our customers like to plan their systems—exploring multiple possibilities, mixing and matching components. Essentially, the Home System Planning Center takes wish lists to a new level and effectively puts an end to ‘plug-and-pray’ or ‘one-size-fits-all’ shopping.”

The center links to other Crutchfield proprietary information centers, including the Home DIY Center and HDTV Headquarters. The tool is free to visitors at Crutchfield.com and Crutchfieldenespanol.com.
