December traffic to Target.com grows 26% year-to-year


Target Corp.’s Target.com ranked third after Amazon and eBay in number of unique visitors in December, but showed the strongest year-to-year growth in unique audience, at 26%, among the top 11 online retail sites, Nielsen Online reports.

The top 11 online retailers among the leading online shopping destinations, with unique visitors (in millions) in December 2007 and December 2006 and year-over-year growth, according to Nielsen Online, were:

  • Amazon, 59.62, 50.55, 18%
  • eBay, 59.37, 66.19, -10%
  • Target, 37.59, 29.74, 26%
  • Wal-Mart Stores, 36.66, 35.57, 3%
  • Best Buy, 23.99, 21.99, 9%
  • Circuit City, 19.62, 16.30, 20%
  • Sears, 17.64, 15.75, 12%
  • Dell, 17.46, 16.30, 7%
  • Overstock, 17.02, 19.25, -12%
  • JCPenney, 16.28, 14.15, 15%
  • Toys ‘R Us, 13.93, 12,19, 14%

    Unique visitors count only once each shopper who came to a site, no matter how many times that shopper visited. This is a custom list compiled by Internet Retailer of the top e-commerce sites in this category based on Nielsen Online data.

    The top 15 online shopping destinations listed by Nielsen also included four shopping networks, with unique visitors (in millions) in December 2007 and December 2006 and year-over-year growth:

  • Shopzilla.com Network, 26.97, 22.83, 18%
  • Yahoo Shopping, 22.20, 16.67, 33%
  • Shopping.com Network, 20.50, 22.76, -10%
  • NexTag Network, 14.92, 17.14, -13%

    By length of visit, the top online shopping destinations in December (hours:minutes:seconds), and unique visitors in millions, according to Nielsen Online, were:

  • eBay, 2:00:50, 59.37
  • Amazon, 0:34:04, 59.62
  • Dell, 0:21:42, 17.46
  • Wal-Mart Stores, 0:17:25, 36.66
