Publisher Simon & Schuster Inc. has named Elinor Hirschhorn to head up its growing online initiatives. She will fill the newly created position of executive vice president, chief digital officer.
Hirschhorn will be responsible for all of the company’s activities in the digital realm, including strategy and business development; the company’s e-commerce site, SimonSays.com; consumer-focused digital marketing; electronic publishing and the digital infrastructure and distribution system the company is building.

"Ellie's wide-ranging experience in digital media, strategy and business development will help us to find new models that will support and enhance our publishing efforts."
Recent digital initiatives at Simon & Schuster include the launch of bookvideos.tv, a site for viewing online videos of authors; the Electronic Author Visit program developed in conjunction with Ball State University in Indiana; and the construction of the company's digital archive and distribution system.
Hirschhorn most recently was executive vice president of corporate development and strategy at College Sports Television Networks. She previously had served as chief operating officer at MusicNet, an online music wholesaler, and had been general manager of MTV.com.
