Charming Shoppes names a new chief of e-commerce


Charming Shoppes Inc., a retailer of plus-size women’s apparel, has hired Gary L. Breitbart in the new position of executive vice president, e-commerce, and president of Charming Interactive, the company`s e-commerce organization.

The company reports that Breitbart will lead Internet initiatives companywide across all brands. He will report to Dorrit J. Bern, chairman, CEO and president of Charming Shoppes.

Breitbart joins Charming Shoppes from a consulting company that he started in 2005 to assist clients in aligning strategic, marketing and operational plans to drive growth and develop new initiatives. Before that. He was chief operating officer of New York off-price apparel retailer Daffy`s. He also has been senior vice president at Prudential Financial, where he was CEO and president of a web start-up company, and chief strategist and marketing officer for Prudential`s employee benefits division. He has also held positions with AT&T, Western Union, NatWest Bank, and Aon Corporation.

Charming Shoppes, No. 159 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, operates 2,403 stores in 48 states under the brands names Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug, Fashion Bug Plus, Catherine’s Plus Sizes and Petite Sophisticate Outlet. Charming Shoppes also owns Crosstown Traders with brands Old Pueblo Traders, Bedford Fair, Willow Ridge, Lew Magram, Brownstone Studio, Regalia, Intimate Appeal, Monterey Bay Clothing Company, Coward Shoe, Home, Etc. and Figi`s.
