Somerfield Implementing Manugistics Solutions To Improve Promotion Forecasting

NEW YORK--Jan. 16, 2006--Manugistics Group Inc. (NASDAQ:MANU), a leading global provider of synchronized supply chain and revenue management solutions, today announced it is implementing Manugistics pricing solutions at Somerfield Group Plc, the UK supermarket chain.

Somerfield, which has 1,224 stores nationwide and owns retailer Kwik Save, chose Manugistics` industry leading pricing and promotion solutions over several competitors to provide a total solution including software, implementation and hosting the Somerfield solution at the Manugistics Data Center.

The firm contacted Manugistics following an Efficient Consumer Response (ECR) Europe study that showed out-of-stock levels for promoted items can be as much as 75% higher than non-promoted items. The supermarket has a large amount of promotion-led business and Somerfield found that this significantly impacted its supply chain. It began working with Manugistics in May 2004 to provide a higher level of forecast accuracy in the promotion side of the company. The first phase of the project is currently being implemented.

"In today`s hypercompetitive retail market, retailers understand promotions are key to driving revenue," said Manugistics Group Vice President of Retail Stephen Poplawski. "The Manugistics solution allows retailers to optimize their promotions to achieve that critical balance between revenue and margin. Manugistics solutions help improve on-shelf availability, reduce inventory investment, and establish a promotional price to drive sales and maintain margin. For Somerfield, we are reducing the time they spend forecasting promotions and improving their visibility into future promotion profitability and interpreting sales and customers` responses by store and product."

The solution is expected to reduce inventory, improve on-shelf availability and increase promotion effectiveness. It will also help reduce time spent forecasting promotions, interpreting sales and customers responses by store and product and improve visibility into future promotion profitability.

Manugistics Retail Solutions are used around the world by such top retailers as Sears, IKEA, McDonalds and Limited Brands.

Manugistics will showcase its Retail Solutions at the annual National Retail Federation (NRF) Conference in New York January 16 - 18. Visit Manugistics at booth 1327 in the Jacob Javits Convention Center. For more information or to schedule a meeting, please contact info@manu.com.
