CyberSource Makes Web Services a Reality for Payment Transactions
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – June 2, 2003 – CyberSource Corporation (NASDAQ: CYBS), a leading provider of electronic payment and risk management solutions, today announced the availability of the first payment solution based on web services architecture, including payment-grade transaction security. The innovation will allow CyberSource customers and partners to more easily access and integrate the full spectrum of CyberSource payment and risk management services across transaction and administrative systems.
“This is a much-needed innovation in the payment arena,” said Robert Ford, CyberSource’s chief technology officer. “Right now, large merchants need to add payment options that work across disparate legacy applications. Resellers need a standard interface to automatically enroll thousands of smaller merchants using their existing business systems and processes. The obstacle to doing either of these easily has been the complexity of integrating functionality across multiple operating systems and multiple programming languages and the lack of true payment-grade transaction security in current XML solutions. Web Services standards permit easy access to our hosted services from virtually all legacy applications, and the security we have incorporated makes it truly viable to implement payment services.” Today’s announcement features a suite of interfaces based on the Web Services standards of SOAP, XML, and WS Security.
These standard interfaces will support the full array of merchant and partner payment solution needs:
§ Payment Transaction Interface, for accessing CyberSource payment, fraud,
and compliance management services over a network. The initial release includes a .NET client for Microsoft environments (available now) and Java client for UNIX environments (scheduled to be released later this month).
§ Registration Interface, for use by resellers to automatically register
merchants for payment services and manage their accounts.
This initial release provides the ability to create CyberSource accounts. The goal of this faster, easier integration of services is to increase merchants’ revenue capture, and to reduce the overall cost and complexity of payment operations. CyberSource’s technology and business partners will also benefit by easier access to the full range of CyberSource products and services.
First in its field
CyberSource is the first payment services provider to offer the full spectrum of web services compliant clients. These clients support the SOAP communications protocol, XML document format, and WS Security data signature specifications to provide the level of security required for payment transactions. With CyberSource support of Web Services standards, including transaction security, developers can more quickly implement payment functionality. By accessing the CyberSource Web Services Development Language from a CyberSource or a UDDI resource, developers will be able to enable payment functionality via most major toolkits that support SOAP, such as Microsoft’s Visual Studio.net, Apache Project’s Axis, and any of the IBM developer kits, such as Emerging Technologies Toolkit.
